Migration is increasingly important in Spain. Indeed, Spain was originally a country of migration, but today has become a destination country, therefore Spain knows both capacities. People and workers from other countries have been on the rise for the last years. Nearly all people and workers are from Latinamerica and from Eastern Europe.

The rising mobility of people and workers to Spain in search of opportunities and work has been commanding the attention of policy-markers, and has set a discussion about migration into Spanish society. In this case, the workers' organization and trade unions have to request mechanisms for participation and consultation on labour migration policy.

A very large part of this migration is directly related to the world of work, it means, nearly all pleople are workers, therefore we think that migration is a labour phenomenon.

Description of The Project

The Unions Participations on Migration Flows Project is being managed by ISCOD.

The participation of workers organizations in countries of origin is needed, to assist migrant workers in obtaining accurate and comprehensive information about employment opportunities and workers' rights in Spain.

Overall objective

The participation of trade unions in labour migration flows formulation in order for these flows to contribute to the development of the countries.

Specific objetive that the Project aims to achieve

To establish mechanisms and structures to provide an effective management of labour migration movements in both origin and host countries. These mechanisms play an important role in making propositions and put it into practice facilitating the overall objective of the Project.

We are working with these objectives in mind, however, this Project has also included other objectives, such as the following:

- preventing and combating irregular labour migration
- promoting social and labour integration and inclusion of migrants
- protecting the migrant workers' labour rights

On the other hand, it must be said that the Unions Participation on Migration Flows Project is only focusing on regular labour migration and how to better manage the flows in the interest of the workers and with participation of the trade unions in flows policy.

It means that Unions Participation on Migration Flows Project is focusing on how to better manage the flows in the interest of protecting the human and labour rights of migrant workers, and maximizing migrations contribution to growth and development of both origin and host countries, in this case the Project promotes and provides the active participation of the trade unions of both origin and host countries in migration flows and trade unions could make or formulate recommendations.

This Project takes into account the solidarity and relationships between trade unions from different countries.
